Catherine Cooley

Communication, Empathy & Conflict Coach and Certified Trainer

Catherine Cooley is a communication coach, trainer, conflict mediator, facilitator, speaker, founder of Peaceabl, and a Certified Trainer through the Center for Nonviolent Communication. 

Catherine is the Empathy Expert who cut her teeth teaching empathy to male inmates in federal prison. Now she gives business teams and leaders who dread their workplace a reliable way to resolve differences, restore trust and build an empathic culture.

She applies the consciousness and skills of Nonviolent and Compassionate Communication (NVC), a model used by organizations worldwide for 

  • Empathic and psychologically safe culture building, 
  • Emotional Intelligence awareness,
  • Conflict resolution, 
  • Relationship transformation, 
  • Team building, and
  • Values and mission alignment.

She has facilitated workshops in federal prison for the Alternative to Violence Project. She trained workshop participants in nonviolent communication, active listening, empathy, collaborative problem solving, authentic self expression, conflict transformation, leadership and community building.

Catherine co-developed second generation Active Peace Circles (APC), a Restorative Justice circle process for resolving and repairing community and organizational conflicts with a needs-based lens. She has brought Restorative Justice processes to two international religious communities.

She is a member of Rotary International E-Club of World Peace, and Mediators Beyond Borders International. 

Catherine lives in Southern California and has a long time passion for peace, environmental sustainability and spiritual inquiry. She loves going to the beach and mountains, and attends gatherings that revitalize her sense of “the human village,” including live theater, council circles, farmers markets, Family Camp, retreats, dance events and community song circles.
